A local art and design institute known as S.I.A (Sabah Institute of Art) was celebrating their 20th anniversary last Wednesday (5th January 2011) in their new premises at KK Times Square. Sabah Institute of Art was known to have a long history as the first art and design education provider in the state of Sabah since 1994. S.I.A have nurtured quite a number of young local artist both designers and musician by helping them making their head start in life, pursuing career in the line of art. This institute have made young art lovers into professional artist encouraging them to make creativity as their profession.
SIA pride itself for their 20 years of establishment in art and design by rebranding their logo and school into the brand called DETECKE which carries the slogan DesignTechnology and Music Knowledge Education as the first Design and Music college; one stop art courses, all in one institute for Sabah. Now the institute is known as DETECKE Sabah Institute of Art (Institute Seni Sabah).
This occasion was held during S.I.A's opening assembly for the year 2011 and January new intake semester commencement. During the event, S.I.A President Prof. Dato' Dr. Wilson Yong Tung Yung JP have mentioned in his speech, "Prospect for designers in China are vastly lucrative and remained in big demands. As much as 200 hundred and more designers are badly needed in China. Malaysian designers are in demand for their capability of being able to speak both Mandarin and English fluently." Prof. Dato' Wilson has been acknowledged to have signed in colaboration with 20 companies from China recently in Sabah.
The event was also attended by S.I.A newly appointed academic advisor Ar. Aaron Fong and Mr. Cheong Kok Ann witnessed by S.I.A students and parents.
